Goals

I am looking for a challenging job in software development.

I have decades of experience, covering virtually every aspect of software development, from design, to programming, to testing, to team-building, to product and project management.

Experience

Russell Technologies Inc. (RTI) / Xenex Innovations / CANStar Innovations

October 1998 – September 2005, January 2010 – October 2024

CANStar was founded in October of 1998, by a small group, including myself, with extensive experience in the marine navigation industry. CANStar became Xenex in December of 2001, and then became Russell Technologies Inc. in October of 2007.

RTI specializes in the development, production, and marketing of PC-based radar technology. This technology consists of both hardware and software, and integrates with many standard marine radar (and navigational) devices.

My role at RTI consisted of a wide range of development activities. At various times, I was responsible (often simultaneously) for all hardware and software development, hiring of development personnel, customer support, field installations, and testing.

Development platforms and tools includes:

·     Microsoft Windows (various versions)

·     Microsoft Visual Studio (various versions)

·     Microsoft Windows Embedded (various versions)

·     Linux (various versions)

·     GCC and related tools.

·     Git / GitHub

·     OpenGL

Xanatos Marine

January 2009 – January 2010

Xanatos is in the business of providing marine port and harbour monitoring and management systems.

My work there involved integrating and enhancing radar imagery, ARPA manual and automatic target acquisition, and live footage from security cameras.  All Microsoft Windows-based.

Offshore Systems Limited

December 2006 – January 2009

I returned to OSL as a Software Team Leader.  My responsibilities included:

·     overseeing software development for certain projects;

·     maintaining requirements documentation;

·     working with Sales and Marketing on proposals;

·     working with customers and potential customers.

Imagenex Technology Corp.

October 2005 –  November 2006

At Imagenex, I developed software for the company's new DeltaT multi-beam sonar systems.  This software supports multiple simultaneous sonars, recording and playback of sonar data, and UDP output of profile data.

This development was done in C++, for Windows, using Microsoft Visual Studio for the development environment and tools.

From April 2013 to December 2015 I also developed some software for Imagenex under contract.  This involved displaying and manipulating sonar data in 3D, using OpenGL.

Offshore Systems Limited

February 1980 – September 1998

Offshore Systems Limited was founded in 1977 by my father, Helmut Lanziner (it was originally founded as Offshore Survey and Positioning Services, Limited). In 1980, I was hired, more or less right out of high school, as a junior software developer. I spent over 18 years at OSL - during this period, the company went from six employees to over sixty, from a private company to a company publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE:OSI) (it is now again a private company).

Now called OSI Maritime Systems (OSI), OSI is a world leader in the development, production, and marketing of high-end Electronic Chart Systems (ECSs) and Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDISs), and Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS).

Further information on OSI can be found at osimaritime.com.

1997 - 1998 Vice President – New Product Development

·     Responsible for the overall development of OSL’s PC-based ECPINS NG (Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System – Next Generation) product, up to version 3.0.

1995 – 1997 Product Development Manager

·     Responsible for key strategic product development projects within the company.

·     Actively involved in the company’s product marketing activities.

1994 Principal Engineer

·     Played a consultant / coordinator role – providing technical input to all development activities within the company.

1992 – 1993 Engineering Manager

·     Responsible for all development activities and resources within the company, including hiring of all hardware and software engineers.

·     During this period, we initiated formal version control, build management, and bug tracking tools and processes.

1989 – 1991 Project Manager – ECPINS Development

·     Played the roles of Project Manager, Team Leader, and senior software developer for the development of OSL’s original VME-based ECPINS (Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System) product.  This product, based on Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system, would remain OSL's main product for almost ten years.

1986 – 1988 Team Leader – PINS 9000 Development

·     Responsible for taking PINS 9000 (Precise Integrated Navigation System 9000) from development prototype to product.

1981 – 1985 Field Support Technician

·     Provided software and hardware support for Precise Navigation Systems used by Dome Petroleum in Canada’s Beaufort Sea.

·     Site Supervisor for Panarctic Ice Platform Oil Rigs – installed, operated, maintained, and de-installed ice platform motion sensor systems, and underwater television systems, in Canada's high arctic.
